DAY 4. Nice to meet you, Oriental Dance! / ¡Mucho gusto, Danza Oriental!

ENGLISH (top)  *  ESPAÑOL (abajo)

*** ENGLISH. My first encounter with the Oriental Dance was in a gym. The instructor, beautiful and named Oemil, invited me to try the class. I told her I could not because I did not have the body for it. She told me that, my body was fine, and in any case, everyone could dance Oriental Dance! I tried it and I loved the music immediately, and I do not know if because of past lives, or my previous experience in dance, I easily left the steps. The teacher invited me to be part of her dance company, and she told me she would train me. But the plans changed because of personal commitments of both. After two more instructors, I met Luxandra. Another beautiful and talented teacher. I loved the Oriental Dance more. She also invited me to be part of her dance company, but I could not because of previous commitments to the university.

As the months went by, I decided to try the School of Vanessa Angulo & Su Grupo, one of the pioneers of oriental dance in the country, and the most recognized for her years of work. I started the classes and I loved them. After two months, I could not continue because I had run out of savings, I did not work because I covered my university with scholarships and support from my parents. On the other hand, my parents did not support that I studied dance. A little person, whom I call "Fairy Godmother," whose name is Cecilia, told Mrs. Vanessa Angulo that she should see me dance. Mrs. Vanessa then attended the class that I was attending. She observed me, and then invited me to take more advanced classes and eventually offered me a scholarship. In less than a week, I was already part of the dance company. At first it was difficult to learn all the choreographies quickly, but everything became addictive for me.

I thank Mrs. Vanessa for giving me the opportunity to have been a member of her group, allowing me to train her professional dancers in the jazz dance genre, choreographing pieces for her shows, directing and preparing auditions for pieces where she gave me the total freedom of creation: Wahla Baloh, a collaboration in the Egyptian Mega Mix and The Mummies. Also, for having allowed me to be an instructor at her school and assistant in her San Diego workshop. I experienced beautiful things in her school, and I carry nice memories.

I stayed little relatively, because it was on and off, but it seems to be a lot, because of all the experiences lived and shared.

To read my stories about of me beginnings as a dancer, you can read my posts of Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 of me series “20 Years in 20 Days”. Also, if you want to ask or say something, I’d love to read it on the comments below!

Kisses to the right, kisses to the left, my heart to you, and applause for you because you read me! see you soon! Watch videos below:

*** ESPANOL.
